Military Engineering Consultants

The right team is more than an advantage. It’s a game-changer.

Our military engineering consultants possess a strong understanding of the military’s special needs, requirements, and practices. Our successful contract methodologies for military projects include designs as both prime and sub-consultant, IDIQ and IDC (O&M) contracts, design-bid-build, design/build, and Request for Proposal preparation including participation in programming, design charrettes, value engineering, proposal evaluation and source selection, and government representatives for design review for design/build RFPs. We understand the military’s unique design requirements and we are well versed in the use of Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) documents, Military Handbooks, agency-specific Design Guides and other DoD regulations and guides.  We also routinely use SpecsIntact software and Uniform Federal Guide Specifications (UFGS) in the preparation of contract documents for federal projects.  We are also intimately familiar with DrChecks on-line design review process and have delivered several dozen projects using these tools.

Anti-Terrorism and Force Protection (AT/FP) is a high priority on military installations, especially at overseas locations. Our military engineering consultants is very familiar with current and evolving Department of Defense standards for AT/FP. Through national seminars, in-house training, and implementation on several current projects, we have gained a solid working knowledge of current anti-terrorism design standards and their real-world application. Coffman Engineers is able to provide our clients the benefit of this expertise, adding value to our design projects.

Terrorism is a dynamic threat that is continually changing and increasing in frequency and methods. The design issues relating to minimizing the risks associated with terrorist attacks affect all engineering disciplines. The primary methods used to provide a greater level of safety to building occupants are careful attention to minimizing uncontrolled access, avoiding progressive collapse, and reducing flying debris hazards. A quick glimpse of the issues we address within our respective design areas are as follows relative to mechanical and electrical design: Compliance with special mailroom design parameters, emergency air distribution controls, minimum exterior lighting levels, protection of utilities, location of air intakes, and special support of mechanical and electrical equipment.
