Principal, Structural Engineer
Community involvement and leadership are two recognizable contributions Dave makes to both eastern Washington and Coffman Engineers. He is entrenched in organizations that help build better, safer communities with a focus in the healthcare industry. Large and small projects alike, Dave gives each his full attention and committed to their success by being present from beginning to end.
Twenty-seven years of experience gives Dave the knowledge and expertise required to lead a team of engineers on a project as large as Sacred Heart Medical Center’s West Wing Expansion. One of the area’s most renowned hospitals, recognized for its advances to medical care in the Inland Northwest was in need of a major expansion as it continued to outgrow the existing facility. Dave and his team of structural engineers prepared to design the new Women’s Center and Surgery Center, set to occupy an eight-story, 235,000 sf addition and 88,500 sf remodel to the main building. The existing design and site created structural challenges as three of the eight stories of the addition were built over an access road, one of the new building stories was built atop the existing hospital, and the site was primarily rock sub-straight which required blasting to excavate for the basement level. All of these features were phased to maintain service of the existing hospital and a comfortable environment for the patients, visitors, and hospital staff. Complicated design and construction required a seasoned leader that could bring ingenuity and an “outside-of-the-box” approach to the process. This approach along with a dedication to the project brings success to his clients and provides mentorship opportunities to younger engineers.
