The Eastern Washington University football program was looking for ways to energize their players and fans in 2010. Their idea was to install a bright red artificial turf that would be the first of its kind in the entire nation. Coffman provided the civil engineering and project management services for the new field. It seems their efforts payed off as the EWU Eagles won their 1st National Championship that very same year.
The $825,000 football field included intricate field grading as well as a complete sub-surface drainage system. According to the University, the artificial turf will provide a sage and low- maintenance surface for football, in addition to benefitting the environment by eliminating fertilizer and irrigation. The University estimates the turf will help save $12,000 annually in field maintenance.
