MEET JOHN
John is a principal advisor in Coffman’s Seattle office and specializes in audiovisual and acoustical solutions. He previously held the position of President at MBF AV & Acoustical Consulting and joined Coffman in January 2025. John holds a master electrician (ME06) license in Washington State.
Following high school, John joined the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Midway (CV41), the USS Cape Code (AD43), the USS Dixon (AS37), and at NAS Whidbey Island Naval Air Station. His Navy service is distinguished by ten years of service, good conduct medals, awards for battle efficiency, meritorious unit commendations, and recognition for continuous operation of shipboard radio stations during a nineteen-day transit from San Diego, California to Yokosuka, Japan, on board the USS Cape Cod.
After leaving the U.S. Navy, John attained a journeyman electrician’s license and administrator’s license, which were combined and recognized as a master electrician (ME06) in Washington State. He completed Syn Aud Con training for sound system design, DSP optimization, and many other industry-related classes. With over thirty years of experience operating, integrating, servicing, and designing acoustic, audiovisual, control, and presentation systems and solutions, John has honed the skill of interpreting users’ language and needs for the designer’s implementation.
John’s experience and relationships support architectural and engineering clients across the country. Clients include performing arts or theater venues, houses of worship, educational institutions, state and federal government facilities, indoor and outdoor sports venues, outdoor sports stadiums, recreational complex venues, and municipal civic campuses, such ascourts and council chambers.
John has been married to his wife Karen for 38 years, whom he met in the Navy, and they have two children and two grandchildren. John enjoys listening to music from his collection of 4,000 LP records, doing live sound mixing, woodworking, and RV travel around the Pacific Northwest.
